With the help of a friend—yes, a woman friend—Dante finds his way back to life. But what he finds when he gets back isn’t the same life that he left behind. Turns out, he has to start living a new one. One where he's suddenly having feelings for a friend that helped him get through some tough times, and loving a daughter that won’t let him quit.
We knew that Lani was going to give us a gut wrenching one when it came to Dante, we knew it. The horrors he’d lived, the ones he was still living- it had to be done. Had to.
We had no idea.
Lani was at her finest with Hail Mary. Everything about is was gold. Inside and out. For the man that no one thought would ever hope to find happiness again- to not only find it, but find it better than he had, well that takes a talented author to tackle such a topic. I felt Lani did a fabulous job honoring Lily and the girls, while still allowing Dante to grow with Cobie and Mary, and make their lives even more beautiful.
Now, I’m not going to lie- she scared the bejeesus out of me when it looked as though history would repeat itself, because I knew that as devestated as Dante was over Lily- that he’d die without Cobie. Their love was something completely different and more all consuming than either of them realized. They helped each other heal. Dante from a broken heart, and Cobie from perpetual loneliness and lovelessness. Theirs was a love that was unique and genuine, and I knew that’d I wouldn’t survive it, if she didn’t.
But, as always, Lani came through. It might have been hard as all get out to go through, but nothing good in life comes easy. I’ve come to learn that whenever Lani jerks out hearts out by doing something unthinkable in one of her books- it’s because she’s got something better planned eventually. It all happens for a reason.
Hail Mary is definitely one of the best of Lani’s collection, and one you don’t want to miss. It’s a true 5 star read, and worth every penny!!
