Title: For The Love of Dixie
Series: Kings of Chaos #3
Author: Shyla Colt
Genre: Contemp/NA Romance
Published: October 25, 2015
This was my first time reading anything of Shyla's, which is always nerve wracking, as you never know what to expect from an author that you've never experienced. Luckily, I wasn't disappointed. While I do feel as though maybe MC books aren't the exact market that Shyla could excel in, I did enjoy this one.
The story of Dixie and Echo, two high school lovers ripped apart by Echo's venomous and racist father, was really tough to endure at times. It was hard to think that racism could play such a part in today's world, but Shyla shows that it well and truly does with the way that Echo and Dixie were forced to hide their relationship from the world. It was plain to see that these two loved each other deeply, not just the young puppy love that some their age go through, but on a soul deep level. They had plans for their future together, they had their heads and hearts in the right place, and had things mapped out the way adults should. Then, BAM. The ugliness of the world that encompassed them tore away the beauty that they had created, and left behind nothing but suspicion and doubt. For that, I wanted to rip Echo's father apart, with my own two hands. A man so fueled by hatred and pain, that he funneled that poison to his children, trying his best to mold them into the monster that he was. It was sickening to know that such a man walked the earth.
I loved seeing the brotherhood of the rest of the MC and how they all rallied around Dixie and Echo, regardless that Mouth was a fellow brother, they knew that he was in the wrong. While this book isn't as gory and realistic as many MC books are, I feel as though it does accurately portray the morals and beliefs that they stand for. The love, the brotherhood, and the faith that they have in each other and in their family. Shyla did a great job with that, without getting too lost in the club, and still having the story be about Dixie and Echo. Nice read, and I do recommend it to everyone. 4 stars!!
Echo, Joel Spencer knows that Dixie hates him, but he also knows she yearns for him. After being forced by his hateful father to practically leave her at the altar when they were teens, he realizes that he has his work cut out for him. One thing is on his side, he knows what she wants and needs. This time, he WILL make her his again, and to hell with whoever gets in his way.
